Stephanie "Surreal Sista" Williams has enjoyed writing since the tender age of 6. By the age of ten, she created a crudely-produced musical. At eleven, she converted a blank journal given to her as a Christmas present into a book of short stories entitled: Cat's Tales; in which she diligently wrote for two years. At fifteen, she tried her hand at song lyrics, completing three "mock" albums-worth of writing...and at seventeen, she began her long journey into the realm of poetry writing where her first competitions were against fellow Creative Writing classmates for extra credit points. In 1996, Stephanie enrolled in San Francisco State University to study Creative Writing. Since 2002, Stephanie has been a 15-time St. Louis Poetry SLAM winner and was a member of the 2003 and 2005 St. Louis Poetry SLAM teams. She conducts SLAM Poetry workshops in St. Louis area middle schools, high schools, colleges and Girl Scout troops resideing in housing projects. She booked featured speakers for the St. Louis Poetry SLAM in 2003, was the Graphic Designer of the NPS2004STLOUIS Official Program and related flyers and was the Marketing Director for NPS2004STLOUIS. Currently, Stephanie is the Marketing Director for WORD In Motion and teaches Spoken Word Poetry to Charter School students through Support-A-Child’s Exodus To Excellence after school program. Stephanie has self-published 6 chapbooks since 2002, and can be seen performing at the St. Louis Poetry SLAM or at St. Louis-area open mics.
